London Maccabi Vale Cricket Club 2nd XI v Crouch End on Sun 15 May 2011 at 13.30
London Maccabi Vale Cricket Club Won By 7 wickets with 4 overs left
Match report
LMV 2nd XI 175 for 3 in 36 overs beat Crouch End 174 all out, by 7 wickets
There is nowhere else to start other than by congratulating JEREMY HARRIS on a maiden ton. Following his golden duck last week, this was a complete role reversal as he dominated the scoring right from the start, having gone in after 2 balls when Nigel Rothband suffered a rare failure with the bat. From then on it was Jeremy's afternoon, dominating stands of 70 with David Freedman (17) and Daniel Caplan (24 n.o.).
Earlier on LMV were put into the field at the beautiful Shenley Cricket ground (main pitch if you don't mind). With most of the junior brigade stuck at home studying for their various exams it was a much older team than normal that took the field, with only Simeon Cohen (who makes enough noise for the rest of the Colts to have been there)under the age of 25.
Fine opening spells from the "old opening attack" of Leders J and Freedie J kept things quiet as Crouch End were reduced to quick singles to try and get their score moving. An excellent spell from the even older stager, Jeff Permutt (3-31) and 2 wickets for the veteran spinner, chairman Terry Hyman (2-21) ensured that LMV would only be chasing a modest total of 175.
The tea probably deserves a paragraph all of its own, 2 different type of chips, a vast array of sandwiches, cakes, wedding cake (I kid you not) and drinks were well dealt with, although we may not be able to afford to buy anything else for years after paying for it. I should also add that the bulk of the rest of the Cohen family had joined us by then!!!!!!
So a good victory, but we now have 2 league and a cup match to come so we need to ensure that we get out the strongest possible sides and improve our fielding and especially our catching if we are to be successful in these matches.
Lastly back to Jeremy Harris, he must have known it was his day, as when he arrived and saw we were going to be playing on the main pitch, whilst the rest of us were warming up, he as practising his bat waiving and acknowledgements to the vast crowds! Little did he know!
Apparently I need to go and ash my hands now!!!
